Trouvé dans un petit recueil de poèmes abandonné sur une table basse de ma colocation. Celui là m'a tapé dans l'oeil, parce qu'en le lisant je me suis revue sur le pont, au dessus de l'eau blanche et gelée, à regarder les pélicans.
C'est étrange et merveilleux quand la poésie parvient à créer ce genre de résonances.


Immigrant


November '63: eight months in London.
I pause on the low bridge to watch the pelicans:
they float swanlike, arching their white necks
over slightly ruffles bundles of wings,
burying akward beaks in the lake's water.

I clench cold fists in my Marks and Spencer's jacket
and secretly test my accent once again:
St James's Park;  St James's Park; St James's Park.
