Snowflake challenge - Days 1 & 2
Jan. 2nd, 2018 10:00 amA bit randomly I decided to do the Snowflake challenge! And in english, too!
Day 1
Talk about why you're participating in Snowflake and, if you’ve participated in the past, how the challenge has affected you. What drew you to it? What did you take away from it? What do you hope to accomplish this year?
This is my first time doing it, but I have been aware of it existence for a few years and I often was interested reading what other people shared!
I saw the challenge in a few friends feeds this morning and thought, why not? I should have time to do it and I'm vaguely depressed by the prospect of going back to work tomorrow, so it might cheer me up! I don't really expect anything, mainly I'm just curious I think...
We will see how it goes!
Day 2
Share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, crazy times with fellow fans (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone.
I got in fandom a long time ago (in a galaxy far far away)... I was mono-fandom for a long time (Star Wars, then Naruto...) and them very much multi-fandom ever since. A few of my more solid friends IRL are actually people I met through Star Wars (including my boyfriend of 12 years) or Naruto.
2017 had a few fannish good memories, most more linked to fanworks and people than actual fandoms:
- This year I got to meet
malurette IRL as we watched an outdoor viewing of the show Lastman. It was great and it became one of my insta-fav fandoms this year! I got the boxed blue-ray for my boyfriend at Christmas and we are actually rewatching it. Good times!
-
maldoror_chant came back online, started writing again... and archiving all her fanfics on AO3, which made me very happy and relieved. I am having a blast reading all her old fics along as she archive them and discovering new stuff. (I also had a few flashback of being 20-something and staying up literally all night reading The Arrangement on the family computer... and maybe even skipping a class a few year latter (which I usually never did!) as I was caught in a reread... :D)
- Thanks to my amazing boyfriend I got to meet a favorite author of mine this year: Guy Gavriel Kay, who was in Paris for a book tour... On the day of his birthday. I'm not usually keen on meeting people whose work I enjoy a lot IRL, But somehow this was a bit special and I built it up more for myself by using one of my inktober days to do an illustration for one of his books... which I gave him in person when I met him! And after that we had the chance to join him and a few other lovely people for restaurant after the book signing was done and we got to talk more. It was altogether one of the loveliest evening I had all year. And we exchanged a few emails since then, so... Yeah. Good memory. :)
